The seminar, Emerging Topics in Chemical Sciences, brings together researchers, faculty, and students to explore recent advancements in materials science, chemistry, and emerging technologies. The program is designed to facilitate the exchange of ideas, highlight innovative research, and promote collaboration. In honour of our esteemed Professor Tarun K. Maji, and celebrating his remarkable contributions, this seminar reflects his commitment to academic excellence and scientific growth, marking our respect and gratitude on his superannuation.
Prof. Maji was born on 16 November 1960 and grew up in Rupdoypur, Panskura, West Bengal. He completed his B.Sc. in Chemistry from Calcutta University in 1981, followed by B.Tech and M.Tech degrees from the same university. He later earned his Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Chemistry from Calcutta University in 1992. Since then, Prof. Maji has been serving at Tezpur University, where he has made significant contributions to the field of chemistry. He has published numerous high-quality research papers and currently holds an impressive h-index of 43, with a total of 5,676 citations.

Department of Chemical Sciences is one of the most active department of prestigious Best Visitor's Award winning educational institute, Tezpur University. Decorated by well-trained and extremely motivated faculty as well as bright students, the department constantly strives to maintain a culture of excellence in research and uphold the highest standards in chemical education. The Department of Chemical Sciences was started in the year 1997. The Department has been offering Ph.D. in Chemical Sciences, M.Sc., integrated M.Sc. and integrated B.Sc./B.Ed. program in Chemistry. The Department is housed with 17 research laboratories, 7 general laboratories, 5 sofisticated laboratories, 7 class rooms, one conference and one seminar hall. This Department is supported by DST-FIST and UGC-SAP (DRS-II) level.
Tezpur University was established by an Act of Parliament in 1994. The objectives of this Central University as envisaged in the statutes are that it shall strive to offer employment oriented and interdisciplinary courses to meet the local and regional aspirations and the development needs of the state of Assam and also offer courses and promote research in areas which are of special and direct relevance to the region and in emerging areas in Science and Technology.
