In celebration of National Classics Week, Excellence Through Classics (ETC) is running another nationwide online gaming event for Latin students across the nation. We will be hosting the game on April 16th!
In order to play, students will need a device with internet access. The contest will focus on the cultural theme of "Daily Life in the Ancient World" and “Famous People of the Ancient Mediterranean” Nota Bene - It will not include Latin questions related to vocabulary or grammar. The code to access the game, the live stream video, and more detailed instructions will be posted below.

To get ready to play, follow the steps listed below! Let’s break last year's record of 646 student participants from over 16 states!!!! Citius, Altius, Fortius!!!!
Before the week of the game:
Send an send all staff email to your school to excuse students from their in person or online classes if necessary
Notify parents/students.
Address any technological needs to each student has a device to access the game
Invite any Latin colleagues and/or local Latin teachers
On the day of at game time:
Project/display OR forward the link the Livestream Video below to your students.
Have student participants follow the instructions on the screen to join the game.
N.B. It will take 15 minutes to get all students to join the game.
If players are allowed to pick their own names, students should enter names: "FIRST NAME & LAST INITIAL / STATE." For example: Traci D / PA. Teachers should enter names: "MAGISTRA/MAGISTER & LAST INITIAL / STATE." For example: Magistra D / PA.
If players are NOT allowed to pick their own names, winning students must stay after the game ends to identify themselves.
N.B. Teachers may play but can't win! Users may have to shorten their first name if longer than the character limit.
The game will officially begin at 1:15 p.m. Eastern time.

On Friday, Dec. 11, 2020, 235 Latin students from the United States and China competed in our international Saturnalia Kahoot hosted by Excellence Through Classics (ETC).
Magistrae Traci Dougherty and Nava Cohen appeared in a livestream Zoom video with a very small live student audience featuring Sandy Run Middle School eighth grade students. See photos of the event here!
In addition to the filled Zoom Webinar Room, students were able to access a YouTube livestream of the Kahoot questions in real time. While there was a bit of lag on the livestream, the event was a success! Thank you all for your passion, patience, and understanding.

Excellence Through Classics (ETC) is a standing committee of the American Classical League, a professional organization of Latin teachers. ETC is dedicated to promoting and supporting: elementary, middle school, and introductory Classics programs. We inspire and educate young learners to explore and celebrate the Latin language and Greco-Roman literature and cultures by offering the National Mythology Exam, the Exploratory Latin Exam, the Scribo Composition Contest, Nationwide Live Games, the PRIMA Publication, resources and grants for teachers, and awards for students.

Excellence Through Classics (ETC) LIVE was designed to offer teachers and students cross curricular classical content as teachers were scrambling to turn their classrooms digital during the Covid-19 pandemic. Because of the incredibly encouraging response to the live sessions, ETC is committed to continue to provide new and engaging content throughout the academic school year. Session topics vary from musical performances, Spoken Latin, STEM demonstrations, author discussions, game based sessions, to live archaeological sessions - ALL directly available in your home. Content is appropriate for a middle school audience and up.
