Integrating the Statistical Investigation Process, Data Visualization, and Simulation into High School Statistics
We are currently recruiting potential participants for our year-long curriculum development and mentoring program titled Integrating the Statistical Investigation Process, Data Visualization, and Simulation Into High School Statistics funded by an NSF-DRK12 grant (2201121). The main goal of this project is to co-develop curriculum materials that will help to incorporate statistical thinking in middle/high school mathematics courses. Interested teachers should apply here.
We are looking for Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, or their equivalents (high school mathematics courses) teachers to work together with our team throughout the upcoming 2024-2025 school year. Participation includes:
a) Virtual synchronous large and small group meetings (approximately once a month) from September 2024-June 2025. Time and day are scheduled to fit each small group. We anticipate meeting for one hour on a weekday between 3pm ET and 7pm ET.
b) Some reading, sharing ideas, and participating in a collaborative process to develop student audience-specific classroom-ready modules.
c) Class testing statistics modules (pending approval of your school/principal) at your school during at least 2-3 class periods.
d) Conducting pre- and post- class testing assessments and follow-up with your students, and a debrief with program mentors, including filling out a post-module implementation 10-question survey.
Teachers who participate in the year-long effort will get a $500 stipend.
Applications submitted here will begin to be reviewed on a continuous basis in August/ September, 2024 and you should expect to be contacted by early-mid September with additional information. In the meantime, please email nathan.tintle AT isi-stats.com with questions. You may wish to discuss the potential for participation in this program to your principal since, if you are accepted, you will need to provide a letter of support from the district or school about your participation.
