The Need

The United States is facing a crisis: not enough people are pursuing STEM education and careers. We need to fill 3.5 million jobs by 2025, but 2 million will remain vacant. Additionally, low income students have fewer resources than higher income students in STEM education.

A major contributor to few STEM candidates in the workforce is young students' perceptions of the field. A Randstad North American survey found that 52% of students between ages 11 and 17 did not know anyone in a STEM career. Additionally, 76% did not know what engineers do. The survey also found younger students did not understand the real life applicability of STEM.

We are committed to encouraging STEM education in students, especially in low income areas, by demonstrating the real life applicability of STEM, showing how fascinating STEM really is, and supporting students academically.
