Paper Weaving

Paper Weaving

Class #1

  1. The first step of paper weaving is the best! We could use plain paper, or we could design our own community paper (thank you, Ms B!) and use that to weave! This is way more fun...so, start by getting out lots of art making materials such as:

  • Markers, colored pencils, crayons

  • Paints, paint sticks, or watercolors

  • Pastels or craypas

  1. Explore the materials and discover what types of lines, shapes, and patterns you can create on paper!

Class #2

  1. Once the paper is dry, cut it into 1 inch wide strips.

  1. Fold a piece of cardstock in half and draw a line parallel to the edge, 1 inch from the edge. Then draw perpendicular lines from that first line to the folded edge, each 1 inch apart.

  1. Open up the cardstock and use the paper strips to weave!

  1. Glue down the edges of the paper strips so that they don't slip out. You can also use tape on the back instead of glue.

  1. Then create a frame for your weaving...any shape you like! Glue the frame down and trim the ends of the paper strips.

  1. With extra time - You can decorate the piece of paper that has been cut out to make the frame or you can decorate your frame!

Class #3

  1. Fold and cut a piece of card stock to make a heart (or other shape).

  1. Glue it onto the weaving.

  1. Decorate the card stock with collage and paint sticks!
