We are going to practice shading with oil pastels. You will need:
paper (preferably a dark color)
oil pastels
Choose 4-5 colors that are different from your background/paper color. Start by drawing the lines of the pumpkin with the darkest color you chose. Remember, pumpkins come in all sorts of shapes!
Shade in the bottom of the pumpkin with your darkest color. With your next darkest color, shade in above the first color. Try overlapping the colors - this will help with the smoothness of the shading.
Follow with the next two colors. Your third color can be repeated at the very top by the stem. Remember to overlap the colors, this is what makes the colors blend!
Add a stem and ground below your pumpkin. You may add details to the night sky as well!
