Discussion Board

The files below are screenshots of discussions between 6th graders that took place during a unit on bibliographies and citations. Students who participate in this unit are given a topic to research using both print and online encyclopedias; then, they are responsible for posting an explanation of that topic to a discussion board, citing the sources they used to research the meaning of the topic, and holding academic discussions with peers on the topics posted by each student in the class.

Students are assessed based on the nature of the comments they post, and a class discussion is held where several discussions are reviewed and conversations about appropriate, intellectual or worthwhile replies, as well as appropriately cited sources, take place.
