Our Inititives

Erie Guinea Pig Rescue focuses on bringing a positive change to guinea pig welfare in a variety of ways. Our work is inspired by the support and commitment of our community members who share in the belief that people and guinea pigs thrive through coexistence.

With our mission always in mind, we strive to find new strategies to make our rescue efforts more effective.

With this initiative, our goal is to support the welfare of all guinea pigs. Guinea pigs alone are one of the most neglected and misunderstood domestic species.

One of our top priorities at Erie Guinea Pig Rescue is to properly educate the community on proper guinea pig care.

Most guinea pig owners and animal care employees alike are misinformed on what proper care should look like.

Pet stores sell "guinea pig cages" that are way too small and sell products that are not appropriate for your furry friend.

Additionally, most pet store guinea pigs are regularly inbred in "guinea pig mills" and tend to be less healthy than their properly bred counterparts.

We urge our community members to Adopt, Not Shop!

With the support of our dedicated community, our advocacy efforts go a long way.

We are dedicated to stepping up our rehabilitation efforts, which is by no means an easy feat. But through cooperation and community involvement, we believe we can facilitate progress in this area.

Medical care can be complicated and expensive; especially since experienced veterinary care can be hard to find for guinea pigs.

Guinea pig health can be difficult to observe since most guinea pigs show no obvious signs of illness until it is too late. To counteract this, we record weekly weights, perform physical exams, and provide preventative care to all our guinea pigs.

All of our guinea pigs receive medical care as needed and are monitored accordingly.

Erie Guinea Pig Rescue is not a veterinary service and cannot diagnose or provide medical advice to our community. If your guinea pig is sick or injured, we reccomend seeing a veterinary specialist.
