Ode to Procrastination

With many possibilities and distractions to hold you back, which way are you going to procrastinate your time? This pseudo-multi channel short presents an internal dialogue with how forms of procrastination plague those who want to work.
For my final project in my experimental film class, I wanted to explore a non-linear narrative approach to video. With this, I split the video into four channels and played them concurrently in different quadrants of the screen. One of the things that I liked working with on this short was the continuity between different shots. Things like having the same props in the same spot across different iterations of the events and things like that.
One of the things I wanted to emphasize through this was the feeling of repeating time, thus having many shots even within one quadrant of the frame occur again and again. With this, the ideas of feeling stuck can make themselves more prevalent and show a large picture of the monotony even within one iteration of how one procrastinates.
The effect I am most proud of in this is the mirror shot. I have had ideas with mirrors being windows to different realities in the past and how reflections of oneself can actually be something completely different. Having the ability to play with a mirror in a meaningful way in this project was a fun challenge to incorporate. First of all, setting the camera in a way to not have it shown proved trickier than planned. However, once set, the remainder of the shooting was fairly simple. The editing side of things took a lot longer, however. Each frame had to be masked and manipulated to create the effect of a different person in the mirror, and I think that the work put into the shot paid off in the end.
