Focusing on the chaotic nature of the experience of driving, this experimental film plays with time in the way fast motion, and overlayed videos.Â
This was the second project made for my experiential film class. The idea of the project was to experiment with time by using time-lapse and slower frame rates... things like that. My first thought for this project was to make something that utilizes match cuts to transition from scene to scene, but when filming happened, it didn't turn out the way I wanted it to. I decided to scrap the idea for later until I had more time to make something I'm proud of out of it. I wasn't sure exactly what I wanted to use as my subject, but there was a shot that I really wanted to use; the opening shot of the short is of me running over the camera as I drive away. Using that shot and choosing inspiration from that, I decided to go with something around the idea of cars and the dizziness that it can cause.
The fun of this is that I had a chance to make something somewhat void of narrative. It is one of my first times making a project/video that doesn't follow a narrative. I enjoyed this experience, but I'm not sure how much more I want to make videos in this theme. Having a story and telling it is more entertaining to me than just having something that looks pretty and is more thought provoking. The type of experiential work I want to make is something more with narrative and the storytelling that come from that.
