Dead Line

This paper is due tomorrow! Which weighs more: the price of failure or the price of staying up all night working on it? This short made for the 2019 Insomnia Film Festival, hosted at SUNY Geneseo, visualizes the pressures of getting that paper done before the deadline catches up to you.
I was a late addition into this project, but I'm really glad I was able to help out. This was made for the Geneseo Insomnia Film Festival back in 2019. The festival gives participants 24 hours to create a 3-minute short film. From 5pm on Friday to 5pm on Saturday, each group must film and edit a short that includes at least 3 prompts given for the festival. Each year, those prompts are different so people cannot prepare for the coming year.
While I was not part of the original group, I was asked to join to be the editor. I was contacted ahead of time, and was excited to help out. I was kept in the loop during the filming process but had no influence on what happened there. It was around 9am on Saturday when I received the footage. It didn't take long to download all the files, but getting the audio to sync was somewhat challenging. A lot of the video was missing the audio once downloaded, so it took a bit of time to troubleshoot that process.
The act of editing was fun as well. What I had fun with was the ability to make something that utilized time lapses in a meaningful way. It was interesting to work on since I was not in control of any of the filming, so having to work with that disconnect was a good challenge for me to overcome. At the awards ceremony this short did not win any awards from the judges, but was featured by the ceremony itself as the ceremony came to a close.
