What is happening? Who is to say. This project was an experimentation with collage animation. Though there is not much story, there is a lot of experience that was gained be creating in this way.
This project was created to play and experiment with stop motion animation. We utilized a collage animation style for the aesthetic of the video. This was also the first time using the Dragonframe program to create stop motion animation in conjunction with a Canon camera. The project was a little chaotic to work on, but I'm happy with the way it came together.
In the past, I have made some animations. This is the first one that I made in a more professional setting. With it being a project, this higher level of professionalism definitely comes into play. Unfortunately, we did not have much of an idea of what we wanted to make with this project. On our first day of work, we thumbed through a handful of old magazines. With this, we were hoping to find things that either looked cool to use for later or things that sparked inspiration for what we could create. One of the hardest things that we came across was trying to find backgrounds for the project. We wanted to use only materials found in these magazines, and finding larger photo backgrounds proved difficult.
On our second day, we ended up just animating something to get a start on this. What came out of it turned into a series of chaotic events including a car crash, being baked alive, and falling through the floor. From then on, we just ran with what we got. While I was not the one coming up with the ideas of what was happening under the camera, I was the one primarily in charge of using the software and adding the frames.Â
After I finished with my animation, the initial video was exported. From this, it was sent to my partners in the project. Axel had experience and the passion to create an original soundtrack for the project, which he created through Garage Band. Afterwards, all components were sent to Ryan for some color correction, touch-up, and the addition of sound.
