Utilizing black leader, clear leader, and discarded footage, this 16mm film was made without myself utilizing a camera. The goal: to take and manipulate physical film in a way non-conventional to the standard film practices.
In this project, we were given 16mm film to do whatever we wanted with. Each person in the class was given slightly over 10 feet of film to work with. As well, we were given tools to manipulate the film with, such as box cutters, sharpies, inks, glitter, bleach, and so on. Over the course of around 3 weeks, we were tasked with the objective to just play with these tools and see what we learn about frame by frame animation and things like that. One of my sources of inspiration for this project was some of the computer animations by John Whitney. Taking his geometric approach to animation, I wanted to take some of that and incorporate that into my work with the lines and circles within each frame.
