A Beach in Maine

Take a walk through the woods on a summer night on the coast of Maine. This virtual reality project was set to the idea of loving nature and the magic that comes with the mystery and tranquility of darkness.
This project was one that lasted the entire Fall 2022 semester. We were tasked with creating a virtual space. I chose to mimic a space where I liked to visit. I've wanted to go back to Maine ever since I took a trip with my family back around 2013 or so. With the project guidelines being quite open-ended, I wanted to recreate the peacefulness that I remember this space being for me.
This was my first time using the tool of Virtual Reality, so even though not everything is perfect, I am still happy with what I was able to create. One of my favorite experiences from the trip I took was a night where we went to the beach and just stargazed for a couple of hours. With that in mind, I decided to emulate the space in night. This gave me the ability to add some extra functionality of the VR space by incorporating a flashlight to use within the program. Playing with the sounds and lighting, while still not quite real, gives the illusions of that space.
Above is a recording I made while interacting with the project. It shows off the abilities to manipulate the lighting and shadows as well as exploring the environment and the sound design with it as well.
