The Equity Caucus serves to improve graduate programs through conversations on topics regarding equity, diversity and inclusion. Through early engagement with these concepts, it is our hope that graduate students will become active participants in their own development and practice of advocating for equitable environments in both professional and personal practices.
As the education and psychology professions are centered around social justice, enhancing equity must be a part of every conversation. Additionally, we aim to assist future professionals in psychological and educational settings in building understanding, awareness, and capacity to advocate for marginalized youth and families in all contexts of this work. We are committed to engaging and elevating these competencies that will benefit every youth and family we will support throughout our careers.

Dr. Matlack has loved school and learning all her life. It was that and her love of working with kids which lead to her pursuit of an EdS and PhD in School Psychology from UW. As now a professor at UW, she champions school based mental health and teaches others how to be activists and allies in addition to teaching culturally responsive mental health practices.
The UW School Psychology Program Equity Caucus and this Playbook have been a labor of love for our team.
It would not have been possible without the incredible work of Dr. Tema Okun, Mr. Kenneth Jones, Ms. Kimberle Crenshaw, Mr. Richard Delgado, Ms. Jean Stefancic, and Dr. Jondou Chen
