Pippa Baldwin is a wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, niece, and artist. Her work addresses the challenges of making art while doing the things that have to be done to meet the demands of being a mother. She works across mediums binding together drawing, washing, print, cooking, paint, homework, textiles, ironing, and film.
Her work concentrates on the repetitions of the domestic, that overlap in the creative act of making art, by filming these repetitions of domestic routines, from inside a dishwasher a phone and a cardboard box, the work attempts to capture the honest interactions of family life. The method of making becomes a paradox: domestic routines that stop the making of art, becoming the artwork.
Multiple mise en abymes are created within her work. Through the process of mirroring, she explores the experience of time during the lockdowns of the Covid pandemic. Drawing on theories and literature to stitch ideas of time and space into unravelling fabric of the canvas and the matrix of the print, connecting through a line of thread into the space of the digital.
