NEW YEAR 2026 LINE UP ANNOUNCED...
7:30 – 10pm Thursday 22 January 2026
Simon Spillett Quartet
As one of the truly establishment voices in British jazz as a leading musician and respected commentator, 2026 will see Simon Spillett celebrating his 30th year in the business – so we’re lucky he’ll visit us for our opening gig of the new year. Inspired by the classic Brit-bop of the 1950s and ‘60s, Spillett is a multi-award-winning tenor saxophonist and band leader, of both his own big band and quartet, but he is also a man of letters, as music journalist, essayist and author (penning a major biography of British sax legend Tubby Hayes), as well as face and voice on TV, radio and various jazz podcasts. Expect a swinging selection of bebop, hard bop and post-bop, and hopefully some shared stories and experience. Simon will be joined by his quartet featuring bassist Alec Dankworth, Johnny and Cleo’s son.
Line-up:
Simon Spillett - tenor sax
Pete Billington - piano
Alec Dankworth - bass
Pete Cater - drums
7:30 – 10pm Thursday 26 February 2026
Mario Bukana
London-based guitarist, singer, composer and band-leader Mario Bakuna is a driving force on the home and international scene taking Brazilian jazz to audiences as far afield as Egypt, Madagascar, Canada and Azerbaijan, while closer to his adopted home Mario has played many of the UK venues that count, including the Royal Albert Hall, Ronnie Scott's and the Jazz Cafe, as well as jazz clubs and festivals around Europe. In his home town of Sao Paulo, Mario Bakuna studied with prominent musicians including Roberto Bomilcar, the pianist who played with Frank Sinatra during his visit to Brazil, and between touring extensively, Mario has recorded two albums: 'Where Rio de Janeiro Meets Bahia' and 'Brazilian Landscapes'. Expect a rich night of Afro-Brazilian jazz, samba, bossa nova and post-bossa nova.
Mario Bakuna – acoustic guitar & vocals
Davide Mantovani – bass
Duncan Eagles – saxophone
Uccio Gaeta – drums

Tomorrow's New Quartet
Tomorrow's New Quartet are a London-based band compromising some of the UK's young jazz stars, namely sax player Tom Smith, pianist Sam Watts, electric bass-player Flo Moore and compositional drive behind the band drummer Rod Oughton. Their debut album "All Together, Now!" was released on Ubuntu in 2022, and was given the “Editor's Choice” review in Jazzwise Magazine. They have toured all over the UK and Ireland, performed the Love Supreme Festival, and got their music onto BBC Radio 3, Jazz FM and London Jazz Radio and streamed over a million times across the streaming platforms. TNQ is one of a number of projects of Oughton’s, who also plays side man to a number of exciting acts including saxophonist Tom Ridout, latin jazz group the Mañana Collective and a vocalist who the EJC crowd are familiar with, Ineza.
Line-up:
Tom Smith – saxophone
Sam Watts – piano
Flo Moore – bass
Rod Oughton – drums
