London-based guitarist, singer, composer and band-leader Mario Bakuna is a driving force on the home and international scene taking Brazilian jazz to audiences as far afield as Egypt, Madagascar, Canada and Azerbaijan, while closer to his adopted home Mario has played many of the UK venues that count, including the Royal Albert Hall, Ronnie Scott's and the Jazz Cafe, as well as jazz clubs and festivals around Europe. In his home town of Sao Paulo, Mario Bakuna studied with prominent musicians including Roberto Bomilcar, the pianist who played with Frank Sinatra during his visit to Brazil, and between touring extensively, Mario has recorded two albums: 'Where Rio de Janeiro Meets Bahia' and 'Brazilian Landscapes'. Expect a rich night of Afro-Brazilian jazz, samba, bossa nova and post-bossa nova.

Tomorrow's New Quartet
Tomorrow's New Quartet are a London-based band compromising some of the UK's young jazz stars, namely sax player Tom Smith, pianist Sam Watts, electric bass-player Flo Moore and compositional drive behind the band drummer Rod Oughton. Their debut album "All Together, Now!" was released on Ubuntu in 2022, and was given the “Editor's Choice” review in Jazzwise Magazine. They have toured all over the UK and Ireland, performed the Love Supreme Festival, and got their music onto BBC Radio 3, Jazz FM and London Jazz Radio and streamed over a million times across the streaming platforms. TNQ is one of a number of projects of Oughton’s, who also plays side man to a number of exciting acts including saxophonist Tom Ridout, latin jazz group the Mañana Collective and a vocalist who the EJC crowd are familiar with, Ineza.

It's worth noting that Epsom Jazz Club has been launched as a not-for-profit community project, with the sole ambition of bringing Nationally and Internationally renowned Jazz Musicians to venues in the Borough of Epsom and Ewell, Surrey. Other than our nominal promotional and venue/equipment hire expenses, all the ticket revenues go directly to the professional musicians.

It is never intended that Epsom Jazz Club be a private entity or profit-making. In fact, we are a subsidary of Epsom Music (Registered Charity No. 1197449).
Should ticket revenues exceed event expenses, we seek to either make improvements to our concert evenings or introduce some discounts for the young.
