Quarto Encontro Paulista de Pós-graduandos em Computação (EPPC 2020)
The São Paulo Meeting of Graduate Students in Computer Science (EPPC) is an opportunity for MSc and PhD students to exchange experiences and ideas about graduate life topics, including but not limited to technical discussion on their research topics.
The EPPC is one of the initiatives of the graduate programs in Computer Science from the state of São Paulo (http://dcm.ffclrp.usp.br/integraccsp/#).
The first EPPC occurred in 2017 at the Instituto de Ciências Matemáticas e de Computação - ICMC - University of São Paulo
The second EPPC ocurred in 2018 at the Instituto de Computação - University of Campinas.
Last year, 2019, the Instituto de Matemática e Estatística - University of São Paulo - hosted the third EPPC.
This year, the event will be organized by the Department of Computer Science from Federal University of São Carlos, in November 11. Given the COVID-19 pandemic, and for all participants' safety and well-being, the event will take place entirely virtually this year.
For the safety and well-being of all participants, this year the event is going to take place completely virtually.
We know that a face-to-face meeting is much more pleasant and allows for a better exchange of ideas. We are striving to make an event entirely virtual as beneficial as possible.

Title: Segurança no Mundo Virtual
Abstract: O mundo sofreu muitas transformações nos últimos anos. Diversas pessoas e empresas estão hoje interagindo em um Mundo Virtual, onde os riscos são tão grandes, ou as vezes maiores, que no Mundo Físico. Esta palestra irá mostrar como Computação provê recursos para que seja possível "vivermos" neste Mundo Virtual com segurança. Entretanto, durante a palestra também veremos que é necessário que as pessoas aprendam a "viver" de maneira segura no Mundo Virtual, assim como aprendemos, através de séculos, a viver no Mundo Físico.

The discussion session will take place virtually on Slack channels, created by topics according to the submitted short papers. The papers are organized in seven technical sessions: Education, Image Processing, Human-Computer Interaction, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence Application, Natural Language Processing, Applied Computing. All the information regarding Slack channels will be previously sent to the participants.

Title: Pós-graduação: Avaliação, Qualidade e Pesquisa
Abstract: A comunidade tem perguntado sobre o caminho que estamos trilhando para construir uma pós-graduação de excelência. Encontramos opiniões divergentes, alguns acreditam que se obtém qualidade pelos altos níveis de exigência, outros por estimular o trabalho individual dos alunos. Inicio a apresentação com uma visão sobre a avaliação dos programas de pós-graduação e como esta avaliação vai evoluir. Mas o essencial é a qualidade dos trabalhos desenvolvidos, com bons trabalhos e inseridos no contexto brasileiro uma avaliação positiva é a consequência. Fazer um projeto de tese ou dissertação é um dos momentos críticos para seu mestrado ou doutorado. Nesta apresentação vamos discutir o que é necessário para escrever e desenvolver uma proposta de dissertação ou tese. Uma boa proposta é o caminho para sua vitória, então vale a pena se esforçar bastante agora. Um bom plano de trabalho é meio caminho andado no seu curso. Mesmo que você já tenha passado pela fase de defesa da proposta uma visão ampla sobre a forma de realizar a pesquisa é importante para o sucesso. Uma boa tese ou dissertação é o resultado de uma boa pesquisa.

One of the goals of EPPC is to present your research to your colleagues, so submit your work for presentation.
We will have discussion sessions of the submitted works on Slack channels; the idea is to exchange thoughts, so please ask your colleagues a lot of questions!
Please register until October 25 November 01.
The event registration is allowed for attendance and work presentation, or just attendance to lectures and discussion sessions. To register, please fill the registration form here.
You will need to submit your work at the moment of your registration. You will need a maximum 4-page short paper and a 5-minute YouTube link of a video of your work presentation.
You can find the template for the short paper here. Your submission must have a maximum of 4 pages. The abstract section should be written in English, and the remainder of the text can be written both in English or Portuguese. In addition, papers must be submitted in PDF format. Formats other than PDF will NOT be accepted.
The 5-minute video intends to attract the audience to the discussion session of your work. You can follow some hints on how to prepare a nice presentation.
All 5-minute videos will be made available before the meeting, so that everybody can watch and come to the discussion session with their questions.
