About Us
Welcome to Evesham Park! Nestled in North Baltimore, just north of Belvedere Square, our neighborhood is a charming and quaint community known for its family-friendly atmosphere and serene environment. With a mix of single-family detached homes, rowhomes, and one apartment building, Evesham Park offers a variety of housing options to suit different needs and lifestyles.
History
Evesham Park has a rich history dating back several decades. Initially developed as a suburban retreat, the neighborhood has maintained its appeal through careful preservation of its green spaces and residential charm. Its proximity to Belvedere Square has always been a significant asset, providing residents with easy access to local shops, restaurants, and cultural amenities.
The park off Evesham Avenue was created when Northern Parkway was built in the 1970s. This park is split by Northern Parkway, with the two sections connected by a pedestrian bridge that stretches above the busy road. In the late 70s and early 80s, the northern half of the park was a popular gathering spot for families and boasted a variety of playground activities. However, by the 90s, the wooden play equipment had begun to decay and was eventually removed. Neglect led to the park deteriorating, and becoming overgrown.
This state of affairs began to change for the better in 2001 when residents banded together to reclaim the park. Led by Leslie Wietscher, a long-time resident, the community revived a garden planted by a former neighbor and formed the Evesham Park Neighborhood Association (EPNA) in 2002. The EPNA focused on action, coordinating cleanups, and working with the city to remove overgrowth and trash. (Parks and People Case Study)
