Once upon a time there were elementals, people who could control the elements; air, earth, fire and water. Once there was an evil man who wiped them all out, at least he thought that he wiped them all out. Years later, in modern times, a new elemental rises, his powers slowly developing as the days go on. Meet Nicholas Manning, the last elemental known to exist. He’s got the ability to control fire and he was taught to hide his powers. To this day he doesn’t let his power show unless it’s an emergency. He blends in with the normal crowd, going about his day to day life as if he’s just like everyone else, but deep down he’s different, he’s dangerous and he keeps his secret to himself. Nicholas doesn’t trust easily, but he’s loyal to those that he cares about.
Nicholas, or rather, Nick, was raised by his father. His mother disappeared when he was young and he often blamed himself, even though his father insisted that he had nothing to do with it. In Nicholas’s eighteenth year, his father was killed in a car accident, something that he’s still not quite over and he doubts that he ever will be. He’s kept to himself ever since.
At age twenty, a woman shows up at the coffee shop he works at. She looks familiar, but he doesn’t think much on it as he fills her order. She continues to visit the shop day after day, until one day she introduces herself as his mother.
Nicholas’s life turns upside down as his mother explains why she had to go away. There had been very bad people after her and now they were after him too. He’s got two choices; one to run away with her and hide or stay there and face the bad guys who want to use him for his abilities. His mother is like himself and she tells him that she regrets leaving him and his father behind when she should have been there to protect them both.
Nicholas doesn’t want to forgive her, but a part of him does and he decides to stay and fight. His mother stays with him and moves into the apartment across the hall from him. They get to know each other again and Nicholas’s mother helps him learn how to expand on his abilities. He didn’t know that he could do more than fire abilities, he’s what some would call a warlock and he learns to do a lot more than bring a flame into his hand.
extra:
– Nick was originally written for a novel years ago that I never got around to finishing, but he is near and dear to my heart. also a fun fact, my oc Cassandra originally was supposed to be his mother, but she branched out for her own universe instead.
