Alexander (Alec) Gideon Lightwood is the oldest son of Robert and Maryse Lightwood. He is a nephilim, a half angel being. He grew up in the New York Institute with his siblings, Isabelle, Jace ( who is adopted into the family and is also his parabatai ) and Max.           

Alec is loyal and will do whatever he can to protect his family and those that he cares about. At one point he becomes the Head of the New York Institute, but it isn’t what he wants to do, so he’s happy to let Jace and Clary take over the Institute for him.           

He lives in Brooklyn with his boyfriend, Magnus Bane and two sons, Rafael and Max Lightwood-Bane. He favors the bow and arrow in a fight, but can use a seraph blade or other weapons as well.            

After the recent events and disagreements in Alicante, the New York Shadowhunters decided to split off from those in Idris to try to help those that sided with Downworlders and other Shadowhunters with their new ideas. Alec was made High Inquisitor, which led to tensions being high. He still holds the position in New York even if most of the Idris Shadowhunters don’t acknowledge his leadership.
