enVision Mathematics is designed to achieve a coherent progression of mathematical content within each course and across the program, building lesson to lesson. Every lesson includes online practice instructional examples as the progression of topics builds, allowing students additional practice with these skills and to develop a deeper conceptual understanding.

At the beginning of every topic, teachers are provided with support for the focus of the topic, how the topic fits into an overall coherence of the grade and across grades, the balance of rigor in the topic, and how the practices enrich the mathematics in the topic. Carefully designed learning progressions achieve coherence across grades:

The Topic Background: Rigor page shows teachers how the areas of rigor will be addressed in the topic, and details how conceptual understanding, procedural skill and fluency, and application builds within each topic to provide the rigor required.

On the first page of every lesson, the Lesson Overview includes sections titled Focus, Coherence, and Rigor. The Rigor section highlights the element or elements of rigor emphasized in the lesson, which may be one, two, or all three. Features in every lesson support each element, but the emphasis will vary depending on the standard being developed in the lesson. The core instructional model features support for conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and application during both instruction and practice, as described below.

enVision Mathematics portrays diverse individuals and groups in a variety of settings and backgrounds. The program has been reviewed and approved for unbiased and fair representation. The selections in enVision Mathematics include a wide variety of contemporary, classic, and multicultural authors.

Our educational materials feature a fair and balanced representation of members of various cultural groups, including racial, ethnic, and religious groups; males and females; older people; and people with disabilities. The program integrates social diversity throughout all of its lessons, and includes a balanced representation of cultures and groups in multiple settings, occupations, careers, and lifestyles. We strive to accurately portray diverse groups within our society as well as diversity within groups. Our programs use language that is appropriate to and respectful of our cultural diversity. We involve members of diverse ethnic and cultural groups in the concept development of our products as well as in the writing, editing, illustration, and design.

Our goal is to equip each of our students with the ability and preparation to meet the mathematical demands presented by college and careers. We strive to support students as they carry their mathematical thinking and problem-solving into multiple learning situations.

enVision Math 2020 Common Core has been adopted as the K-5 math instructional material starting in the 2022-23 school year. Students can access SavvasRealize, the digital content for enVision, through the Seattle Public Schools student portal (Clever).

SPS adopted enVision Math 2.0 in 2018. The current version in place is enVisionmath 2024 for middle school. Students can access SavvasRealize, the digital content for enVision, through the Seattle Public Schools student portal (Clever).

SPS math textbooks for Algebra 1 through Calculus are published by Kendall Hunt. Students can access online versions of the textbook with username and password information supplied by their teacher. The textbook for AP Statistics is Stats: Modeling the World, AP Edition, 3rd Edition. Because these textbooks were adopted prior to the 2012 adoption of the Washington State Learning Standards, not all content in the textbooks is aligned to standard. Teachers have been provided supplemental resources to use with students in order to address all of the grade-level standards.

The math content area of Curriculum, Assessment, and Instruction has launched an Algebra 1-Geometry-Algebra 2 Digital Instructional Materials Adoption for the 2023-24 school year. Find the math adoption webpage. The digital instructional materials adoption process will follow the Seattle Public Schools Selection and Adoption of Instructional Materials, Policy No. 2015. If approved by the Seattle School Board, the new digital instructional materials will be ready for implementation by the 2024-25 school year.

Alignment with the New Jersey Student Learning Standards (NJSLS) is mandated in the State of NJ. All children in East Brunswick Public Schools participate in a rigorous standards-based mathematics program. Mathematics instruction across the grade levels includes a balanced approach, with conceptual understanding intertwined with fact fluency and problem-solving skills.

East Brunswick Public Schools adopted enVision Math for Grades K-6 in Fall 2022. enVision was created by award-winning authors and researchers - two of whom were NCTM presidents. Others have written many books and have sat on the NCTM board. enVision Math is a top-rated program on edreports and sits on an award-winning platform. The goal of enVision Math is to have every child achieve grade-level standards while developing an appreciation for mathematics reasoning and thinking. It has a range of resources to meet a large variety of learners.

There are many ways to solve a problem and one of the goals of the program is to have students use a method that is meaningful and makes sense to them - while refining approaches to move toward efficiency. The trajectory of learning generally moves from concrete to representations then abstract. In fact, every lesson moves through these stages.

The enVision Math program was fully implemented as it was created and in all grades at once to provide fidelity to the implementation and in order to provide simultaneous professional development. We are confident the enVision Math program is a better fit for our students than our previous program. The District initiative of meeting the needs of all learners can best be achieved by ensuring high-quality programs and instruction are occurring in all classrooms, every day.

Students in grades 3-6 will take a math screener and diagnostic assessment that will help their teachers determine a baseline level of math performance. The Math Screener and Diagnostic Assessment will identify skills gaps and help teachers target instruction.

On Sept 5th, a representative from Savvas, the company that owns enVision, trained a core group of teachers to use an intervention program aligned with enVision called Successmaker. Successmaker is research-based and designed to adapt and provide practice skills based on individual student needs, generate detailed reports on student growth, and highlight areas of intervention. The Savvas representative will continue to train and support teachers throughout the school year.

One of the great things about enVision math is the wealth of resources and activities that are available for student support. Teachers have access to a variety of resources based on individual student needs and can assign them digitally or in paper format. In addition, any enVision resource is editable which allows teachers to better tailor an activity to the particular academic needs of their students.

As we have always done in the District, teachers collect and use classroom data to guide their daily lessons, build their student groups, and inform their instruction. Students within a classroom that require additional support to fill in any learning gaps will work with the classroom teacher during the Assess & Differentiate segment of the class to help address these gaps. In addition, since daily homework can also be differentiated, students may be given support or reteaching resources to help address any learning gaps that the classroom teacher may have observed.

While the District has a suggested timeline for each grade level, teachers may need to alter their plans based on collected student classroom data. This may mean spending more time on a lesson if the data shows that students need more work with its content or less time than originally planned if a lesson goes faster than originally planned. In both cases, teachers have a wealth of resources and activities to choose from within the enVision math program that allows for student academic needs ranging from support to enrichment. Teachers can choose from these resources and personalize them to their students based on the classroom data that has been collected.

Video recordings of the January 3, 2023 enVision Math Parent Night are available below. In addition, links to the enVision Math slide presentation and the brochures provided at the meeting are available under 'Additional Resources'.

With the implementation of the Common Core Learning Standards, followed by the New Jersey Student Learning Standards, the district adopted the enVision Math 2.0 resources for grades 3 - 6. enVision Math 2.0 is a comprehensive, standards-based mathematics resource that provides focus, coherence, and rigor. The program seeks to help students develop an understanding of math concepts through problem-based instruction, small group collaboration, and visual learning with a focus on mathematical reasoning and modeling. Differentiated instruction and ongoing assessment are used to meet the needs of students at all ability levels. 152ee80cbc
