Welcome to the Enver Creek Library Learning Commons

Hello Cougars!

Today you will find out more about both our physical and our virtual Library Learning Commons! Working with a partner you will complete the following tasks. You can complete them in any order. Ready, Set, GO!

Task 1:

Locating Areas of the EC Library Learning Commons

Find 10 locations on the list. At each location, take a #shelfie with your partner.

  • The place you return books

  • The 3D printer

  • The burgundy slat wall display

  • The shelves with the fiction books

  • The light box sign that says Welcome Cougars!

  • Where you go to check out your books

  • Where the graphic novels are

  • The shelves with the non-fiction/information books

  • Where you go to sign in when you visit without your class

  • The black pyramid display

  • The glass display case by the tree

  • The ipad where you can search for books

  • The best place to chill out

  • The librarian's name hanging on a ribbon

  • The entrance to the seminar room


Task 2:

Using the catalogue to find books for a project

  • Log on to the computer with your sd36 school district account

  • Google envercreeklibrary.com

  • Go to Library Catalogue

Use the catalogue to find non-fiction books about these topics.

  • Sports

  • Cooking

  • Religion

  • Art

  • Diseases

Now go find them on the shelf! (Non-Fiction books are on the last three centre shelves and the back wall).

DO NOT touch the books. Just take a #shelfie at the shelf with the books.


Task 3:

The Enver Creek Library Learning Commons Website

On the computer, Google envercreeklibrary.com and click on it.

On the library website click on Surrey Teens Read link and read about each of this years nominees. Watch the videos (book trailers for this year's books)

Find the following information/items on the Enver Creek Library Learning Commons Website:

  1. Bibliography makers

  2. Digital Resources

  3. Surrey Schools One

Task 4:

Using the library catalogue to reserve/take out books

Did you know that you can place a book on hold? You can also order books, we will gather them up for you, and let you know when your order is ready for pickup.

On the Enver Creek Library website, go to My SD36 Destiny Library Account. Read the instructions and login to your account.

Are there any overdue books on your account? Is there a book you would like to put on hold?

Task 5:

Using the SD36 Databases

  1. On the Library website, go to Digital Resources and click on "student resources"

Find:

  • 3 different World Books (encyclopedias) that are available in the databases for Secondary students

  • 3 categories in the Canadian Points of View database

  • Find the database called Global Issues in Context. What is the explanation of the feature picture?

  • Find the database Learn 360. Find and watch a video about the water cycle.

Task 6:

Just Chill~!

Go to the comfy chairs in the corner by the slatboard wall, or relax at a table. Pick up a book or magazine from the display! Rest for 5 minutes. Read for fun!

Finding books on the shelf

Find each of the following books. DO NOT take the books off the shelf

Take a #shelfie AT THE SHELF WHERE YOU FIND EACH OF THEM

  1. A hardcover book by Sarah Dessen (FICTION under DES)

  2. A non-fiction book about chemical elements (NON-FICTION 546)

  3. A cookbook (NON-FICTION 641.5)

  4. A paperback by Rick Riordan (FICTION RIO)

  5. A book about the Middle Ages (NON-FICTION 940.1)

  6. A poetry book (NON-FICTION 811)

Staying Safe Online/Digital Citizenship

Go to the Enver Creek Website home page and play the game: Be Internet Awesome.
