Sustainable Development Goals

• There are 17 sustainable development goals that protect the planet, end poverty, and improve the lives and prospects of everyone, everywhere. This is a 15-year plan adopted by all UN member states in 2015, as part of the 2030 agenda for sustainable development.

• In 2015 the goals were adopted by the United Nations, as a call to action for people worldwide to address, people, planet, prosperity, peace, and partnership, five critical areas of importance by 2030.

• 193 countries make up the United Nations. 

Examples

• Sustainable manufacturing capitalizes on the advantages of Industry 4.0 technologies to enhance production line efficiency and sustainability. This entails minimizing waste and energy usage, enabling product customization, and elevating overall product quality. 

• Sustainable urban design focuses on planning, building, and redesigning towns and cities with sustainability as a priority. Green spaces, reducing energy consumption, discouraging the use of private cars, and planning the urban layout to reduce waste are all examples of sustainable urban design.

• Wind energy is a form of sustainable development as it is a renewable resource, with low environmental impact, reduced carbon footprint, energy independence, resource efficiency, and job creation.
