definition: an ideology is "a pattern or set of ideas assumptions,beliefs, values, or interpretation of the world a group or culture operates"(Corbett)
Hegemony - is the privileging of of one set of ideologies over another, creating a kind of coattail control or form of domination
The British empire was a global hegemony from the 18 century to the 19th century (Drew)
Capitalism - an economic system in which the means of production are all owned privately
an example of this is the Untied states free market system. the idea or belief is that the "means of production" is owned privately rather than by anyone else
Socialism- an economic system in which the means of production are owned by the government, like the rest of the society
an example of this is Cuba from the 1960s under Fidel Castro (Drew)
Methods and approach to Ideology
When approaching the idea of ideology and how the environmental humanities can benefit from it. We can attempt to construct an ideology of environmental protection. In order to do this, a culture of protecting the environmental safety must be made in the incoming generations and further generations to help promote environmental safety.
