The term ecotage refers to any type of "sabotage that is carried out for ecological reasons."  "Sabotage done in the name of protecting nature." (Hendry, 101).

Examples of this include:

• The Earth First Movement 

  • A radical environmentalists group that used ecotage through tree sitting and setting fire to buildings in order to call more attention to their cause.

• Earth Liberation Front (E.L.F)

  • A 1992 offshoot of Earth First that began in England by radical members who felt the original movement was becoming too mainstream.
