ENS 2022 Keynote

Andrea Campanella (ONF Ambassador, US)

27/06/2022, 16:30 - 17:10 CEST

Exploiting the Benefits of Network Programming at the Edge

Description: Reduced latency, improved speed and efficiency, stronger security and reliability, and furthermore better scalability, are some of the benefits obtained by having an agile and programmable network edge. A clear example is ONF's 5G connected edge, Aether, built on the SD-Fabric leaf spine solution, allowing for (i) network function acceleration on a P4-based data plane, (ii) observability through In-band Network Telemetry, (iii) fine grained Quality of Service on top of common routing and forwarding functionality. APIs offered by such a programmable networking edge open up tremendous use case opportunities, such as automated fault management, recovery in action, quick trouble shooting, application fo AI/ML algorithms and more.

Bio: Andrea Campanella is a Senior Software Engineer at Intel and ONF Ambassador. He obtained a Master’s degree in Computer Science at the University of Milan, working on a thesis on computer networks and SDN. He started his career with an internship at the Open Networking Foundation (ONF), later moving to a full-time position as member of technical staff (MTS). In ONF he led the ONF’s European Cluster to foster ONF’s European community and partner relationships. He worked on P4 solutions, Trellis hardening and tools for the new μONOS/SD-RAN platform and for the Optical Disaggregated Transport Network (ODTN). He sits on the ONOS Technical Steering Team and on the SEBA/VOLTHA TST. He leads the team taking the fiber to the home in production with service providers across the globe. He moved to Intel in April 2022.
