"Sadeness (Part I)" is a song by German musical project Enigma, released in October 1990 as the lead single from their first album, MCMXC a.D. (1990). It became an international hit, reaching number one in 14 countries. In the United States, the song peaked at number five on the Billboard Hot 100 and number one on both the Dance Club Play and 12-inch Singles Sales charts. A sequel to the song, "Sadeness (Part II)" featuring Anggun, was released on Enigma's eighth studio album, The Fall of a Rebel Angel (2016).[1]

The accompanying music video for "Sadeness (Part I)" was directed by Michel Guimbard,[22] and received heavy rotation on MTV Europe.[23] It shows a scribe who dreams of wandering among cathedral ruins. He comes up to Auguste Rodin's The Gates of Hell; and as the scribe looks on, he sees a woman (played by French model Cathy Tastet[24][25]) beyond it, who whispers the main lyrics from the song to him. The scribe then opens the gates and, realising what he has done, attempts to flee, but is dragged through the gates. The video ends with the scribe waking up.[26]

One of my friends had this song in his playlist from back in the early-mid 2000's and it used to always crack us up because it sounded like some kinda weird porno music. Friend said he was doing a camera job and so I went to find this song to send to imply he meant THAT kinda camera job, but the song is unfindable based off key-words, and now I've spent several hours obsessing about finding this song...

The most unexpected result of the campaign was questions over possible satanist content in the music. The album deals explicitly with the themes of good being balanced by evil, but, for most in the press, there was no thought of satanic implications until Charisma issued a press release denying it.

It is always exciting when new information becomes available about how true classics in the world art was made. So was also the case back in 2011 when we received some very interesting information on how the Sadeness Part I video was made. This is perhaps is the most famous of all Enigma music videos, and the song made Enigma into a top selling band.

I made Sadeness video clip in 1991. The girl I found for the video was very young (17 years old, way back in then) Her name is Cathy Tastet. (Also known as Kati Tastet, born in Toulouse France on January 01, 1973) After the video, she became an Elite Model in the USA. Director of Photography of the film was Jrme Robert. I wrote the story of the film. Shooting Ratio of the music video of Sadeness was 1.33 (4:3)
