Watch Face Studio from Samsung is a great tool for creating watch faces without writing any code. For developers who want more fine-tuned control, we've recently launched the Jetpack Watch Face library written from the ground up in Kotlin.

The stable release of the Jetpack Watch Face library includes all functionality from the Wearable Support Library and many new features that make it easier to support customization on the smartwatch and on the system companion app on mobile, including:

If you use the Jetpack Watch Face library to save your watch face configuration options, the values are synced with the mobile companion app. That is, all the cross-device communication is handled for you.

The mobile app will automatically present those options to the user in a simple, intuitive user interface where they change them to whatever works best for their style. It also includes previews that update in real time.

A subclass of WatchFaceService forms the entry point of any Jetpack watch face. Implementing a WatchFaceService requires creating 3 objects: A UserStyleSchema, a ComplicationSlotsManager, and a WatchFace:

The UserStyleSchema defines the primary information source for a Jetpack watch face. The UserStyleSchema should contain a list of all customization settings available to the user, as well as information about what those options do and what the default option is. These settings can be boolean flags, lists, ranges, and more.

By providing this schema, the library will automatically keep track of changes to settings by the user, either through the mobile companion app on a connected phone or via changes made on the smartwatch in a custom editor activity.

In addition to the system WYSIWYG editor on the phone, we strongly encourage supporting configuration on the smartwatch to allow the user to customize their watch face without requiring a companion device.

To support this, a watch face can provide a configuration Activity and allow the user to change settings using an EditorSession returned from EditorSession.createOnWatchEditorSession. As the user makes changes, calling EditorSession.renderWatchFaceToBitmap provides a live preview of the watch face in the editor Activity.To see how the whole puzzle fits together to tell the time, check out the watchface sample on GitHub. What is the Pebble appstore?

The Pebble appstore is a quick and easy way to find Pebble apps and watchfaces right from the Pebble app on your iOS or Android device. You'll be able search for apps by categories including Daily, Remotes, Games, Notifications, Tools & Utilities, Sports & Fitness, and Watchfaces. Each category will feature highlights of the best rated apps, Pebble staff picks, and most recently added.

With our new 3.0 software, you'll be able to store and access dozens of watchfaces and apps directly on your Pebble Time. The number of apps it can hold will vary depending on their size and function. Any apps that cannot be immediately stored on your Pebble Time will automatically be added to the "My Pebble" section of the mobile app. Your smartwatch will begin at the top of each section of "My Pebble" (Watchfaces and Apps / Timeline) and store as many apps as it can until it cannot fit any more.

"My Pebble" is linked to your Pebble account (the email that you used to set up your mobile app). This means that your favorite apps will be ready for you on any device that you sign in to.

When you first log in, there will be several default apps that we have already provided: Calendar, Weather, Notifications, Music, Alarms, and Music. You will also have our default watchface called Enigma and any other watchface you chose during your initial app set up.

There are more details below about how to find and manage your Pebble Time watchfaces and apps below. As you add more to your account, they will appear at the top of the list in "My Pebble" so that they are loaded on to your smartwatch. To rearrange your your watchfaces or apps, in "My Pebble", press and hold the app for 1-2 seconds, then drag it to the preferred position.

Once used, the apps are cached on your watch. This means that the apps you have recently used, your selected watchface, and apps that run in the background will be available to you even if you disconnect from your phone.

Similarly, our Timeline feature will sync for approximately 48 hours -- 24 hours into the past and 24 hours into the future -- so you can continue to access it if disconnected. For more information about Timeline, please click here.

Please note: some watchfaces or apps will require access to information or services provided by your phone, such as location data. If you did not grant permissions to these features during set up, any apps that are reliant on it may not function correctly.

To change the placement of an app on Sense, press and hold an app until it's selected, and drag it to a new location. The app is selected when the icon increases slightly in size and the watch vibrates.

1. Tradition: Some of the earliest clockmakers and watchmakers used "IIII" for the number 4 as a matter of tradition and continuity with the Roman numeral system. Roman numerals had been in use for many centuries before clocks and watches were developed, and "IIII" was a well-established way to represent 4.

2. Aesthetics: Many clock and watch designers believe that "IIII" provides better visual balance with the other Roman numerals on the clock face. The visual symmetry between "IIII" and "VIII" (8) on one side and "III" (3) and "IX" (9) on the other side of the clock face is often considered more appealing.

4. Historical Variations: The use of "IIII" for 4 is not consistent across all clocks and watches with Roman numerals. In some instances, especially in high-end or antique timepieces, "IV" is used, and this practice has become more common in modern times.

It's important to note that the use of "IIII" is not a strict rule; rather, it's a convention. You'll find both "IIII" and "IV" in different clocks and watches, and the choice often depends on the manufacturer's design preferences or historical influences. Ultimately, the choice of whether to use "IIII" or "IV" on a clock face is a matter of aesthetics and tradition, and there's no single, universally accepted standard.

Straight from the heart of Poland, we have an excellent 200m water-resistant watch, a watch that wears rather large on my 7 inch wrist and has considerable heft to it thanks to its 43mm diameter case and 49mm lug to lug width, I would say that this is the upper limits of a wearable watch for my wrist. Having worn a 9mm thick watch weighing below 100g for the last two weeks when I put this back on the wrist it took a bit of time to adjust to the weight (a fact I cannot seem to find on their website) of this watch. Initially, I thought that it was too heavy for me and a bit overpowering on the wrist but that became a passing thought as I wore it more.

Housed inside the watch is the affordable and reliable Seiko NH36A, a workhorse of a movement that gave me no issues at all with timekeeping.

The watch comes on a very nice 22mm black canvas strap with complimentary yellow stitching that has a supple genuine leather underside. It features a rather large but not over sized signed buckle, the strap as a whole compliments the watch very nicely and is extremely comfortable on the wrist.
