Department of English
Department of English
The Department of English has been functional since 1964. The Honours stream was introduced in 2008. After initiation, the Department flourished with its ever-increasing number of students and Faculties. Presently the Department has seven Faculty Members including two Full-time Teachers, four State Aided College Teachers, and one visiting faculty. The Departmental library has a number of 200 books approximately. Regularly ICT classes are taken along with Bridge Courses for the academically weaker section of students. Special attention is given to communicative skills and personality grooming. Students get personalized care under the mentoring of individual teachers. The department celebrates both academic and cultural programmes like Orientation, Farewell, and departmental seminars and literary workshops. The department represents a humble yet promising effort towards developing literary taste and procuring professional skills among students in the hinterlands.
In the challenging time of the global Pandemic, teaching methods in the department have set a subtle balance between traditional modes of teaching through textual exegesis by using digital media - audio-visual modes, experimental exercise as part of the pedagogical process, and interactive sessions. Video lectures have regularly been taken by the faculty members. In the time of Covid 19 and intermittent Lockdowns, the Department applied various innovative modes of Teaching and Learning to continue the academic interactions that not only enabled students to attain their academic pursuits, but also served as their constant companion in the trying times.
