The Audio Dictionary is a comprehensive resource, including historical, obsolete, and obscure as well as contemporary terms relating to diverse aspects of audio such as film and TV sound, recording, Hi-Fi, and acoustics.

The Third Edition includes four hundred new entries, such as AAC (advanced audio coding), lip synch, metadata, MP3, and satellite radio. Every term from previous editions has been reconsidered and often rewritten. Guest entries are by Dennis Bohn, cofounder and head of research and development at Rane Corporation, and film sound expert Larry Blake, whose credits include Erin Brockovich and Ocean's Eleven. The appendixes--tutorials that gather a lifetime's worth of experience in acoustics--include both new and greatly expanded articles.

We are pleased to provide access to the audio recordings for Plums Or Nuts: Ojibwe Stories of Anishinaabe Humor. The recordings contained in this collection come from the late Larry Amik Smallwood, amd were recorded and transcribed by Michael Migizi Sullivan Sr., who worked as a researcher with the Ojibwe People's Dictionary from 2011 to 2013. Their book, Plums or Nuts: Ojibwe Stories of Anishinaabe Humor, is available from the Minnesota Historical Society Press.

Edited and revised versions of these recordings are published in Plums or Nuts: Ojibwe Stories of Anishinaabe Humor. These 25 recordings correspond to the stories in the book, and are the raw, original audio. The book includes textual notes where the published transcriptions deviate from the original recordings. It is also a gateway into the Ojibwe collections at the Minnesota Historical Society. Dennis Bohn received BSEE and MSEE degrees from UC Berkeley in 1972 and 1974, respectively. After completing his MSEE, he accepted a position with National Semiconductor Corporation as a linear application engineer specializing in audio, where he created the renowned Audio Handbook, acting as technical editor and contributing author.

Bohn designed over 40 consumer and professional audio products, and authored over 100 articles, including papers published in the AES E-Library and Journal of the Audio Engineering Society. Mr. Bohn is a Fellow of the AES, holds three U.S. patents, is listed in Who's Who In America and authored the entry on "Equalizers" for the McGraw-Hill Encyclopedia of Science & Technology, 7th edition.

Fulfilling a life-long passion for technical writing, Bohn began his Professional Audio Reference (PAR) project in the mid 1990s. With his html partner Jeff Davies, Bohn created an online audio encyclopedia that has been hailed by educators and professionals all over the world as one of the best audio references available. A printed book version of the PAR was self-published in 2002.

Mr. Bohn retired in 2016 and donated the PAR to AES so that it can be maintained by future generations of audio engineers, as a living resource. The AES is extremely grateful to Mr. Bohn for his significant contributions to the science, practice, and knowledge of audio.
