Hi Language Learners! My name is Jack Scheck, and I am a certified English as a Foreign Language Instructor with a specialized certification in teaching English online. While I teach English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) at the high school level, I teach French, Spanish and ESOL on the side to all age levels.
I am an American living in Minnesota. I am 24 and have a bachelor's degree in biochemistry from Saint John's University. Following my graduation from Saint John's, I spent a year working in a school in Spain, a year working as a language assistant in France, and am now working full time as the ESOL Coordinator and International Student Advisor at Saint John's Preparatory School.
I am also a language learner myself, and have been studying Spanish and French for the last six years. I know the excitement, frustration, and anxiety that comes with learning and speaking a new language.
In my class, you can expect a laid back atmosphere where mistakes are encouraged... by both student and the teacher. We will make language learning fun through conversation and by learning the slang and phrases that are spoken by native speakers.
My teaching philosophy is that language is meant to be spoken. We use language to create relationships and connect with others, not to be perfect. Be prepared to speak a lot during my courses, and don't worry about making mistakes... that's part of the fun.
I offer personalized 1-on1 conversational English courses online for students motivated to develop oral English skills useful in travel and everyday life. I do this in a relaxed atmosphere... usually with a cup of Joe (coffee) in my hand!
I also offer group courses for travelers and students who want to use English to meet new friends and succeed social settings during their Erasmus programs or travels.
Email me about my special book club course, and my course about health and wellness if that interests you!
1-on-1 Courses
Before we start any courses, fill out the questionnaire that is linked below. This is what I use to determine your English goals, needs, and level so that I we can design a course that is right for you!
After, we will schedule a meeting on Zoom or Skype (or a video platform of your choosing) to go over your needs analysis and begin designing our courses.
Some of the courses that I have had in the past include open conversation about travel, hobbies, current events, etc.
Group Courses
These courses also begin by filling out the questionnaire below so that I can determine your English goals, needs, and level. Then, we will have an initial 1-on-1 meeting to give you more information about the course to see if it fits your needs!
With me as your teacher, you will develop real world conversational English skills and confidence in your speaking abilities. We will work together to give you the skills you need to accomplish your own English goals and ambitions!
Why do you want to learn another language? What are your motivations for learning it? How do you learn best? What are you looking for in a language teacher? Let me know by taking this brief survey, and I will reach out to you and we can design a personalized French/Spanish/ESOL course that matches your goals.
