ICEBREAKER: A concentration exercise

Now, we will review the vocabulary we studied in the previous class. In this exercise you have to concentrate and select the best option. We hope you like it.

The third person spelling rules

The third person singular is usually formed by adding s. But there are a few exceptions to the rule:

Verbs ending in o or a sibilant (ch, sh, s, x) add es instead of s. For example:

  • I watch → he watches

  • I pass → she passes

  • I go → he goes

  • I do → she does

A final "y" after a consonant becomes -ie before -s. For example:

  • I worry → she worries

But: A final "y" after a vowel (a, e, i, o, u) is not modified.
