PRESENT CONTINUOUS TENSE

Rumus sederhana:

Affirmative/Kalimat berita/positif (+)

S + to be + V-ing + O/C

Dari formula diatas terdapat rumus turunan yang digunakan untuk kalimat negative(negative sentence) dan Kalimat tanya (interrogative):

S + to be + not + V-ing + O/C

To be + S + V-ing + O/C ?

Penggunaan to be:

I : am

He : is

You : are

She : is

They : are

It : is

we : are

Keterangan:

S : Subject

To be : Auxiliary(kata kerja bantu)

V-ing : Gerund (Kata kerja ditambah –ing)

O/C : Object/Complement ( Objek/Pelengkap

Kata Keterangan waktu yang biasa digunakan dalam tenses ini:

Now, right now, at the moment etc.

Contoh dalam penggunaan kalimat:

Kalimat Affirmative/positive (+)

Rina is cooking fish in the kitchen now

Rina sebagai Subjek, is adalah tobe(karena she jadi menggunakan tobe –is), cooking berasal dari kata kerja cook kemudian ditambah ing sehingga menjadi cooking, fish sebagai objek, dilanjutkan in the kitchen dan now masuk complement atau pelengkap(kata keterangan tempat dan waktu).

Kalimat negative dari affirmative di atas sebagai berikut:

Rina is not cooking fish in the kitchen now.

Untuk membentuk kalimat negatif(negative sentence) maka setelah –to be ditambah dengan –not.

Kalimat tanya(interrogative sentence) sebagai berikut:

Is Rina cooking fish in the kitchen now?

Yes, She is

No, She is not (isn’t)

Untuk membuat kalimat tanya yes-no question maka –to be diletakkan di depan subjek.
