The following lines of the poem are clear indications of the fact that the boy is brave:
Though all the world betrays thee,
One sword, at least, thy rights shall guard.
Following words tell us that he was wounded in the battle:
The minstrel fell but the foreman’s chain, could not bring his proud soul under.
The minstrel boy loved to play his harp and sang songs for the free people. He owned solid hatred against slavery deep in his heart, mind and soul. He destroyed his harp as he did not want to play and spread its tune so to mingle with the air of slavery and suffocation.
