On finding the blanket wet just before sleeping, Azam asked Moazzam what he had done to the blanket and for what purpose? Moazzam said that the blanket was his during the day time so he had full authority to do whatever pleased him. So, Azam agreed to share the blanket with Moazzam at night time so to have it in a dry form.
Moazzam soaked the blanket in water just before night fell. When Azam had to wear it, he was unable to have a sound sleep while wearing a wet blanket. So, Azam made a decision to share it with Moazzam at night time.
When Azam began to pick the ripe dates from the tree, Moazzam hold the axe and started cutting his part i.e. the lower part of the date palm tree. Azam got puzzled for this act of Moazzam and he asked what was he doing? Moazzam calmly replied that he was just cutting his part of the tree. On listening that, all of a sudden Azam agreed to give half of the dates to Moazzam and also assist him in watering the tree.
When Azam was milking the cow, Moazzam started hitting the front part of the cow with a stick as it was his property so he could do whatever and whenever he wants to do with his belonging. On doing so, the cow started to move here and there making it quite difficult for Azam to get the milk. So, Azam decided to give half of the cow’s milk to Moazzam and would help Moazzam in feeding the cow too.
No, the blanket was not of any use to Moazzam because it was quite hot at day time whereas as soon as the night fell, the cold increased in the atmosphere and at that time Moazzam had to give the blanket to Azam according to the agreement of division.
As the upper part of the date palm tree belonged to Azam so he had complete authority to use its fruit according to his will and desire. So, when the dates were ripe, Azam climbed up to the tree and collected all the dates. Being a clever and greedy person, Azam never wanted to share the fruit with his younger brother although Moazzam regularly and appropriately watered the tree on daily basis.
According to the division cleverly made by Azam and whole-heartedly accepted by Moazzam, Moazzam had to feed the cow as the front part was given to him by his elder brother. On the other hand, Azam got the milk as he was the contented owner of the rear part of the cow. Azam proved to be so mean and selfish that he never even bothered to give a drop of milk to his brother rather than he was generous enough in appreciating Moazzam for feeding the cow quite well and on time too.
Moazzam agreed to the division as he was sure that being the elder brother Azam must divide all the property fairly and equally. He further blindly believed that whatever division Azam would make must be in his favor as Azam gave him the better part of the cow and date tree and generously asked him to use the blanket for the whole day.
Azam being the elder brother gave suggestion of division to Moazzam to which he agreed. Azam was a shrewd sort of a person so he showing his generosity gave the front part of the cow and the lower part of the date palm tree to Moazzam. With respect to the blanket, Azam suggested that for the whole day it would be with Moazzam whereas for the short period of night, he would be using it.
After the death of their father, the two brothers Azam (the elder) and Moazzam (the younger) inherited a cow, a palm tree and a blanket.

By taking advantage of Moazzam’s innocence, Azam made a plan to cheat him in such a way that Moazzam would be unable to judge and understand what he had done to him. Azam cunningly used his mind and intellect to deal quite unjustly and unfairly to his younger brother. He put forward the proposal of the division of property of their father to which Moazzam agreed without any question. Azam kept the best part of the property to himself and gave Moazzam the worthless part of that. He generously gave Moazzam the front part of the cow, trunk of the date palm tree and allowed him to use blanket throughout the day. All these three things were of no use to Moazzam as he couldn’t get milk from the cow and fruit from the tree and it was quite hot at day time so no question of using blanket during that time period.
One day one of the neighbors of Moazzam and Azam visited them and noticed that Azam the elder brother was unfairly treating his younger brother and cheating him too. So, he gave some advice to Moazzam. The effect of the old man’s advice on Moazzam was that he listened, understood and acted in the same way as directed by the old man and thus he started teasing his elder brother Azam to get the due share.
Azam gave up cheating his younger brother as Moazzam started teasing him in various ways. When Azam was milking the cow, he started hitting the cow at the front part as it was his possession so to disturb her. Secondly, when Azam was busy in picking the fruit from the tree, Moazzam started cutting the tree with the axe as it was his part. Thirdly, Moazzam soaked the blanket in water when it was the time for Azam to use it at night. After bearing all that, Azam thought that he had badly treated his younger brother by giving him unequal share in their father’s property. So, Azam decided to give Moazzam his due share by getting the milk, dates and sharing blanket at night time.
If I would be at the place of Azam, I would definitely behave justly and fairly with my younger brother. As it is also according to the injunctions of Islam that if someone’s father died by leaving some property then all of his children should get equal share in it. This act of mine would not only strengthen the love between me and my brother but would be a source of satisfaction to my father’s soul as well.
