English 324 Portfolio:
Brianna Olson
Welcome Statement!
My name is Brianna Olson and I am from Argusville, North Dakota which is a very small town located about 40 miles North of Fargo. I went to Northern Cass High School in Hunter, ND and graduated with 42 students. I am now a junior at NDSU (located in Fargo, ND) and will eventually graduate with a couple thousand students. That is a CRAZY adjustment to me! Here at NDSU I am majoring in biology in hopes of becoming a dentist and I am pursuing two minors, one in chemistry and the other in business. I am enrolled in English 324: Writing in the Sciences online course. The purpose of our site is to share files and ideas with our peers. For this particular class we each had to make our own portfolio to showcase our writing assignments we completed throughout the course of this semester. This class has taught me how to use my information I gathered effectively and how to communicate my thoughts in an organized way. Overall, this class has benefited me greatly and has given me very useful skills to use in the future.
In Unit One we completed a variety of assignments. The first major assignment was our job packet. Our job packet consisted of a cover letter, resume, and a thank you email to our employer. The next assignment was learning how to respectively write a resignation letter to our employer. The final assignment in unit one was conducting an interview with a person who works in the field you are interested in and writing a report about it. Unit one has consisted of the most beneficial assignments we have completed throughout this semester because it pertains to real life situations and is preparing us for future jobs and interviews.
In Unit Two we focused on citing our sources, explaining what our sources were actually saying, and being able to get enough accurate information from them. Our first assignment was writing a proposal overview and a proposal memo. The goal for our proposal was to choose a topic that related to the public and was intriguing. The next assignment we worked on was an annotated bibliography. The annotated bibliography helped us cite our sources and summarize our sources efficiently. Lastly, we completed a status report for week 9 and week 11. These status reports helped us reflect on our struggles throughout the week and helped us focus on what we needed to work on and complete for the following week in the course English 324.
In Unit Three our first assignment is to complete a conference abstract and presentation materials. We are currently finishing up Unit Two and setting up our google sites page. I don't have anything uploaded in Unit Three because we have not started any assignments yet. I will upload the assignments as we go. The final project for English 324 is having everything uploaded into our google site.
