Enchantments
Interactive Systems Fall 2018
Interactive Systems Fall 2018
We have created a game to immerse in a world where magic spells are integrated into compulsory education while castles, flying candles and moving wardrobes are parts of the everyday life. During the fall semester, our team launched the project (we call enchantments) for the M110 course – Interactive systems in the University of Athens, with less exptectations but so much hunger for successing the basic idea, the creation of a game in HTC VIVE using an innovative way of interaction, that is gesture recognise instead of just touching buttons.
To achieve this we used Unity, Unity Collaborate, AirSig 3D Motion Gesture and Signature Recognition, SteamVR, www.texture.com, Mega Fantasy Props Pack from Unity Asset Store
We have created an environment, equipped with the HTC Vive, where you can enjoy room scale immersive Virtual Reality experience.
We use a specific gesture for each spell
The player is transferred into a virtual world, in which he is a student in a school of magic. At first has to pass through a brief tutorial on how he can use the three spells and after that he is free to choose which room he wants to visit.
Each "room" is a place somewhere in the castle (School of Magic) and the player has to pass successfuly a puzzle using some of the spells he has just learned. When the player manages to solve the puzzle, he is able to visit another "room".
The game can be played by anyone who wants to learn some spells..... or anyone who wants to relax
The game relies heavily on the ability to recognize gestures as a means of interaction. The gesture recognition library recorded the necessary movements of a sample of ~ 10 individuals. Each member of the team undertook to design and implement a room and a spell using one of the 3 recorded gestures. A user-object interaction system was also needed
The following technologies were used to develop the application :
