This year I am running Project Lead the Way - Gateway curriculum with all of my classes. Project Lead The Way (PLTW) is a nonprofit organization that provides a transformative learning experience for K-12 students across the U.S. The objective is to create an engaging classroom environment unlike any other. PLTW empowers students to develop and apply in-demand, transportable skills by exploring real-world challenges. Through the pathways in computer science, engineering, and biomedical science, students not only learn technical skills, but also learn to solve problems, think critically and creatively, communicate, and collaborate.

This year we offer three classes to our students: Design & Modeling, Computer Science for Innovators and Makers, and Automation & Robotics.

      • Design and Modeling (DM): Engineering Design Process

      • Computer Science for Innovators and Makers (CSIM): Algorithms and Computational thinking

      • Automation and Robotics (AR): Mechanical systems and Robotics

All above courses are designed to help middle school students explore math, science and technology to better prepare them for 21st century learning. Students will be engaging in hands on, real-world projects. Every student will be provided with private log-in access to an online curriculum that can be view anywhere. Students will also be given a classroom laptop for classroom instructional use. Supplementary materials to the courses are posted on this class website. Students will learn to appreciate how the skills learned in these classes are applied in everyday life.
