SMART triage packs contain folding cards to be used to label tag a casualty with a clearly visible priority marker. The sections inside the cards are used in the triage sieve, which takes place in the casualty clearing station.
If a casualty is deceased, the deceased cards should be used. The Police Disaster Victim Identification Teams and the coroner have requested we provide information including the date, time the casualty was deemed deceased, along with the pin number of the member of staff who made the decision. Updates will be sent out to staff when new cards are available. As the incident may be a crime scene consideration should be given to minimising disturbance of potential evidence while rescuing or treating patients. The deceased should not be moved unless it is the only way of accessing a live casualty. This information will need to be passed to the police.
