We offer personalized 1-on-1 tutoring tailored to your child's unique learning needs, including reading, writing, math, and IEP goals grades k-College.

Tutoring Rate:
💰 $35 per 40 minutes
Payments accepted via Zelle, Apple Pay, or Venmo for your convenience.

Specials- Free 15 minute consultation, half off first session, $10 for referrals

🌟 Meet the Founder: Shannah L. Hartman, Ed.S.

Hi! I’m Shannah Hartman, the founder of Empower Education. With over 20 years of experience in special education and student support, I’m passionate about helping families and educators bridge the gap between school expectations and real-world learning.

I hold an Ed.S. in Adult Education and Learning and multiple degrees in Special Education, Counseling, and Psychology. I’ve served as a special education teacher, resource teacher, assistive technology specialist, and LEA representative across Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, DC. My work has supported students with autism, ADHD, specific learning disabilities, and more—from PreK through high school and beyond.

Throughout my career, I’ve focused on:

Developing and implementing effective IEPs
Facilitating IEP meeting and serving as Special education chair
Creating programs to connect parents with students with disabilities
Creating programs to connect students in the self-contained setting with general education students
Assessing and evaluating students for academic strengths and needs
Coaching parents through the IEP process
Implement Intervention Plans
Collaborating with general educators, speech and language staff, physical education, and occupational therapist to ensure student growth.

👩‍👧‍👦 Parent FAQs

📌 Do I need to be present for the session?
For students in grade 3 and below, we strongly recommend that a parent or guardian is present in the home (not required to be online)—especially during the first few sessions. For older students, your presence is optional, but you’re welcome to observe or check in at any time.

📈 How will I know if my child is improving?
You’ll receive regular updates on progress, areas of focus, and next steps. I also track goals informally through session notes and student responses. If desired, we can schedule monthly progress check-ins together.

🤝 Can you attend IEP meetings with parents?
Yes! I offer IEP advocacy and consultation, including reviewing documents, helping you understand school assessments, and preparing for or attending IEP meetings with you virtually or if possible in person.

❓ What if I don’t like the services?
I strive to build a strong, supportive relationship with each family. If you ever feel that services aren’t a good fit, please reach out so we can adjust the plan or pause sessions. Refunds are not offered for completed sessions, but I am open to feedback and collaboration to better meet your needs.

💸 Do I get a discount for referrals?
Yes! You’ll receive $10 off your next session for every successful referral who books and completes a session.

📚 What materials do you use?
I tailor all materials to your child’s needs. I can use the most recent IEP, classroom goals, or school assessments to create custom lessons and materials. We can help with homework or other assignment that the students emails use in advance. Whether it’s reading, math, or writing, everything is designed to meet your child where they are.

Tutoring & Advocacy Policies

All tutoring sessions must be cancelled at least 24 hours in advance to avoid being charged. Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice are non-refundable. We offer a $10 discount for every successful referral. For students in grade 3 or below, we ask that a parent or guardian be present during tutoring sessions to support engagement and safety. Sessions may be conducted online or in person; families must ensure a quiet, distraction-free environment and reliable internet for virtual sessions.

As part of our special education advocacy services, we support parents in reviewing IEPs, understanding progress reports, and preparing for school meetings. This includes helping families ask the right questions and understand their rights. Please note that advocacy is collaborative—we do not offer legal advice. We will keep all shared documents confidential and only use them to support your child’s educational success.

We are certified educators within a local school district and have successfully completed background checks. Before services begin, all clients must review and sign this policy document and contract (one per family) via email. By signing, you acknowledge our service terms and agree to partner with us in promoting your child's academic progress.
