When I had the opportunity to make my exchange studies at the TU Dresden, I really wanted to become part of the formula student team. I wanted to learn as much as I could to bring that knowledge back to the Tec Racing project in México.
I believe formula student in Europe is the best of the best in student competitions, with carbon monocoques, in-wheel electric motors, and electric single-seater cars able to accelerate from 0 to 100 Km/h in less than 2 seconds. I was really looking forward on learning as much as I could from this experience.
With my expanded knowledge from past years and interest in electric drives, I was appointed to the powertrain module to support in the design of the motor shafts for the in-wheel electric motors of the 2020 season. Because of this I was able to directly apply the knowledge learned in the machine elements lecture I attended during my exchange. I learned a little bit about Catia V5 and got to see the way of working of an impressive organization that Elbflorace e.V. is and get to know incredible people and engineers.
However, one semester of studies is not enough to get up to speed with the organization and become a complete member of the team, and it’s even more difficult as a non-native German speaker. I’m sure that in the future, maybe while studying a master’s degree and with a deeper understanding of the German language, I will be able to completely involve myself in one of this teams and do what I love most with the amazing people that make this projects possible.
The coronavirus pandemic made the manufacturing of the 2020 car impossible and was responsible for the cancellation of all formula student events. I hope during this time the team could further develop their incredible car to come back stronger when racing together is safe once again.
