March 2020 - July 2020
Kassel, Germany
I never thought I would be able to have the opportunity to work in what interests me the most and even less with the biggest automaker in the world. I only dreamt of this opportunity when I was in high scholl, and now I'm very happy to have fulfilled my dream.
As part of the second semester of my exchange scholarship with the DAAD (Deutsche Akademischer Austauschdienst) I started my internship with Volkswagen Group Components in March 2020.
I worked in the drive modules development department and was assigned to the MEB/ID.3 drive development project.
My tasks included supporting the team in project control (MS Office) and various technical activities such as CAD and FEM tasks with CREO Parametric 4.0. Some of this activities included:
Concept development and design of a high-voltage contact for an electric machine
Determination of statistical and arithmetic module tolerances for temperature sensing of an electric machine
Creation of production drawings of rotor laminations and shafts
Creation of exploded views of electric machines
I was really excited to become part of the MEB/ID.3 project, because it represents a revolution for the whole automotive industry and for Volkswagen.
"As a way of offering electromobility to everyone in the future, Volkswagen developed the modular electric drive matrix (MEB), a platform that complements the previous modular transverse toolkit (MQB). The MEB includes the most important elements on which the Group’s brands can build.
The Kassel site has been the center of expertise for electric drive systems for many years. This location is the lead plant for low-priced, high-quality electric drive motors." (Volkswagen AG)
I had the great opportunity to work on the development of the electric drive for the first MEB-based volume model, the ID.3, which was just introduced to the market by the Volkswagen brand this past summer of 2020.
My Internship took place at the start of the coronavirus pandemic. Because of this half of the internship took place for home. However, I still got to learn a lot and meet a lot of new people. I was really amazed of how much I was able to learn even from home. I was also very amazed of the actions taken by Volkswagen to assure the safety of all its employees and personell. I will be forever grateful for this opportunity.
At the end of this page my internship completion certificate can be found.
