I am Assistant Professor of Philosophy at San Jose State University in San Jose, CA. Before this, I was Associate Professor of Philosophy at Lone Star College in Houston, TX. I completed my B.A. in philosophy at the University of Houston-Downtown in 2015, my M.A. in philosophy at the University of Houston in 2017, and my Ph.D. in philosophy at the University at Albany, SUNY in 2022. I am also Co-Chair of the American Society for Aesthetics' Feminist Caucus Committee, the Immediate Past President of the ASA's Rocky Mountain Division, and the Philpapers.org area editor for Popular Music.Â
My primary area of research is in aesthetics and the philosophy of art. This work tends to focus on the ontology, ethics, and aesthetics of genre, popular music, and fashion. Outside of this, I also have teaching and research interests in the global history of philosophy (especially relating to Victorian philosophy, Aztec philosophy, and the history of women in the field), philosophy of gender/queer theory (especially relating to trans philosophy), and applied ethics (especially relating to the ethics of art, artificial intelligence, and trans issues).
I spend most of my spare time dancing, baking, and being forever DM. Before philosophy, I was a recording and touring drummer in a number of bands, was an award-winning hip-hop producer (working with Lizzo and K-Rino among others), and owned a banh mi food truck.
