Who am I...

I have been lucky to grow up on the West Coast of Vancouver Island , which has allowed for many incredible experiences. I enjoy participating in a variety of outdoor activities, such as ocean boating, team sports, running, and hiking. Upon high school graduation, I was accepted into the Faculty of Science at the University of Victoria with the intent of achieving my undergrad and applying to Physical Therapy School. After taking Human Anatomy in the second term of my first year I fell in love with the field of Kinesiology. After realizing this, I applied and was accepted into the Kinesiology program the following year. I have now graduated with a BSc in Kinesiology with both Honours and Coop distinction. I can’t possibly explain how much I have enjoyed my degree and all of the opportunities that have come along with it. A highlight for me has been working in Dr. Olav Krigolson’s Neuroeconomics Laboratory on campus at UVic. Within the lab, I have learned how to collect and analyze neural data using several instruments, have attended and had a research display at the annual BCTECH Summit Conference in Vancouver, have been a research assistant for groundbreaking EMG research using the Muse (portable EEG device) on elite athletes, and have been able to do some personal research to write my honours on. I have enjoyed being involved in research as an undergrad student and am definitely interested in pursuing rehabilitation research in the future. Another highlight of my undergraduate degree was participation in three coop placements that allowed me to develop clinical skills related to the field of exercise prescription and rehabilitation. Currently, I am working as a full time Kinesiologist at CBI Health Centre in Victoria BC. I am working with a variety of clients to create and maintain active rehabilitation programs. My goal is to help others by working alongside them to maximize function and improve their quality of life. I believe that exercise is medicine, and this is a philosophy I carry with me throughout all academic and career experiences.
