Why is it important to keep girls interested in STEM?
A common trend in STEM classes is that as classes become more challenging, fewer girls continue on a higher level track. This could be attributed to a lack of women role models, cultures that tend to exclude women in higher education, and persistent stereotypes about women's intellectual abilities. The goal of this site is to create challenging but engaging math lessons that keep girls interested and excited about continuing to pursue STEM classes.

My name is Tali Smith and I am currently a senior at Columbia Prep (Class of '24). Like Tessa, my passion for math goes beyond the classroom and it is something I want girls of all ages and skill levels to feel. My website is aligned with GLAM to provide content for the volunteers to use in their weekly lessons with the GLAM girls through worksheets in which the girls can learn mathematical skills and practice what they learned with worksheets. These lessons are also available to any student or parents that would like more practice at home.

GLAM is a nonprofit organization started by Tessa Wayne (Stanford Class of 2024) when she was in her sophmore year of high school (CGPS Class of 2020). Tessa's main goal for starting GLAM was "to teach young girls exciting, challenging (age appropriate) math that goes beyond their core curriculums." By keeping young girls intrested in math, GLAM aims to increase gender fairness.
