Hello! For this post, I have put together some ways of getting inspiration for skins!
Some things mentioned:
- Websites for inspiration.
- Inspiration from other skinners.
- Real-life recreations.
There are many good websites with unique and creative ideas for outfits.
1. Pinterest!
I know a lot of people recommend it, and I can't lie. It really helps. In case you aren't familiar with Pinterest, it is an online collection of images people upload. You can save images to folders called 'Boards', and follow other users.
Even if you don't have an account, you can still search up images. I normally look for "outfit ideas", "outfit drawings" "unique fashion", and other related searches.
2. Instagram
Even though I don't use Instagram for clothing ideas, you are still able to find a lot of people who like to post about fashion. You can search hashtags for outfit inspiration, and probably find a lot of trendy styles!
3. Clothing Websites
To name a few; Nike, Adidas, Gucci, Aeropostale and American Eagle. These are all top clothing brands with unique styles to take inspiration from. I haven't gone on many, but I am confident that you can find something there.
@smackledorfed suggested this, and I have to agree - this can really help you find ideas.
4. Street Fashion
This was recommended to me by @wqtermxlon. They suggested looking at street fashion styles (possibly from other countries), and using similar outfits on skins. This is an amazing idea! You can go to Google or Pinterest to look for street fashion and find almost anything! There are so many unique designs and styles, you can truly never hit a dead end.
Taking inspiration from other skinners is OKAY! Most people say "don't copy!", and I agree with them. Do not copy another skinner. This is a huge problem on Skindex.
On the other hand, you can go to other skinner's pages and take inspiration from their style. You can look at what they do, and imitate small parts of it on your skins.
As an example - someone created a skin with a really unique sweater and overalls, and you love their design. Please don't copy every single detail. What you can do is see how they create the pattern on the sweater, or the rips in the overalls, and add a little of it to your own. Remember not to copy all of it!
Using other skinners for inspiration is very helpful. You can see how more-experienced people do things, and learn from them.
The last piece of advice I have about outfit inspiration, is to look at actual clothes in real life. When going shopping, looking through the clothes you own, or looking at friend's clothes, you can see what looks nice together.
It's always good to keep in mind what people might enjoy looking at, and what people tend to dislike.
Thank you very much for reading this post! I hope you learned something or enjoyed it!
