To begin; what is a base? A base is a part of a skin that anyone can use on their own skins. You can add hair and skin to an outfit base, skin and an outfit to a hair base, and an outfit and hair to a skin base.

This might seem like a lot if you are used to making your own skins. Truthfully, bases can be really helpful when learning how to create certain features on skins.

A hair base is simply hair for a skin. There can be hair for girls, boys, both, or even a fantasy creature! Sometimes, hair bases are made with eyes or skin. It usually depends on who made it.

An outfit base is just the clothing for a skin. Just like a hair base, any user can add their own skin tone or hair to it.

Hair bases and outfit bases are meant for anyone to use, to add to their skins, and to help them learn and grow in their own ways.

Using a base is very simple! There are 6 simple steps to using a base.

1. Find a base that you would like to use.

2. Read the description! Make sure that you are allowed to use it! Some people restrict access to a few of their bases.

3. Edit the base.

4. Add your specific touches to it. (ex, skin, other accessories)

5. Upload your new skin.

6. This is the MOST IMPORTANT STEP!

Make sure to CREDIT! This is so important.

Crediting is SO simple, please please do it!

Moving on - how to make bases!

Making a base takes more skill and practice. It's a good idea to know how to make full skins first, so that way you can help other people yourself. I would recommend at least a few months of skin making first, but that's my opinion. You can have yours too!

As you already know, hair bases are just hair, and outfit bases are just outfits. I won't walk you through how to make one right now. Maybe on another blog post!

Just make the hair or outfit (or one of the special bases!) and upload it!

Speaking of unique bases, here are a few to boost your base-creativity!

• A wing base. Wings are beautiful and elegant - perfect for a fantasy-inspired skin!

• Skin bases are a little more common. They are very useful; people can add hair and an outfit and that's it!

• A crown or flower crown base. Sometimes, you might not be able to come up with a head decoration design! Some of these bases do exist!
