The anime was first labeled as "Project Engage", which listed Fumiaki Maruto (the author of Saekano) and Tsunako (the Illustrator of Trinity Universe, Hyperdimension Neptunia, Date A Live, Fairy Fencer F and The King's Proposal) as the main staff.[1] The details were then announced through the Aniplex booth at the AnimeJapan 2022 event. The series, titled Engage Kiss, is produced by A-1 Pictures and directed by Tomoya Tanaka, with Shunsaku Yano in charge of world setting, Shinpei Wada adapting Megumi Katagiri's demon designs for animation, and Yoshiaki Fujisawa composing the music. It will premiere on July 3, 2022 on Tokyo MX and other channels. The opening theme song, "Everyone, Scramble" (, Dare-kare Sukuranburu), is performed by Halca. The ending theme song, "Love-Brain" (, Renai-N), is performed by Akari Nanawo.[2]

The anime is set in Baylong City, an artificial island city established in the Pacific Ocean to exploit local natural resources. The anime centers on three characters. The first is Sh, who runs a small company, though his spending habits have left him constantly penniless. A girl named Kisara frequents Sh's office and is constantly worried for him. Kisara attends a high school in Baylong City and does everything from clerical work to household chores with confidence. This is heartwarming, and so is Kurisu's explanation for why she kisses him in the first place. She didn't do it because she wanted to; she did it because powerful experiences such a first kiss are stored in the hippocampus, and aren't easily forgotten. This isn't Okabe's first kiss, but it's his first one with someone he loves, and they end up kissing for a while afterward. The whole thing is awkward and strange, yet somehow still touching and lovely.
